The Sparts broke their losing streak and posted a 29-6 victory. 50 Years Ago — 1972 Remember when It’s worth a little extra time to see the breathtaking array of flowers growing around St. Catherine of Siena Church in Priest River. The tender, loving care is evident in the profusion of colors and variety of flowers in bloom. 60 Years Ago — 1962 Band to play at U-I game The Priest River High School Band will attend the annual Band Day at the University of Idaho, Moscow, on Sept. 29 and play at the U. of I. versus Idaho State College football game. Many high school bands from throughout the state will take part. 70 Years Ago — 1952 Luby Bay mill destroyed Fire of undetermined origin burned the Luby Bay Lumber Co. Mill to the ground Thursday morning. The fire was discovered by Roy Crunk, who sent in the alarm. Forest Service fire fighters arrived with their new fire engine 15 minutes after they were called and were able to keep the blaze from spreading. 80 Years Ago — 1942 Burned while killing weeds High school students Erling Storro, Evan Peterson, George Daggett, Lawrence Denton, Alvin Baker, and Bobby Caprai aided in saving the life of Bill Zachesky, burned while using a flame weed destroyer. The pressurized tank he was carrying on his back sprang a leak and saturated his clothing with gasoline. When his gloves caught fire, Zachesky rubbed them against his overalls. Covered in flame, he panicked and began to run. When Zachesky failed to heed the boys’ warning to stop, they ran him down, extinguished the flames, and summed Dr. Stauffer, 90 Years Ago — 1932 Depression at fault Lumber production in Idaho and Montana was lower in 1931 than at any time during the past 25 years, according to a preliminary statement just released, based on returns from a lumber census conducted jointly by the Bureau of the Census and the U.
